On Thursday, Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal (CT) told reporters that Americans will be “shocked” and “appalled” by a new report regarding the Trump assassination attempt over the summer.
Blumenthal spoked to Fox News reporters about the interim report which is expected to be released soon, following a behind-closed-doors meeting that he had with acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe earlier in the day. Blumenthal said that “I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished, and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president.”
“But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank as it should be to them in terms of providing information,” Blumenthal added. “We are going to absolutely insist on the truth and the whole truth in documents and testimony.”
Blumenthal refused to give specifics on what is in the report but said that the report “will absolutely shock the American people, it should, about the lapses and lags in the protection of his supporters that day and the breakdown of communication.”
“Without accountability, this kind of failure and lapse will happen again because there needs to be that sense that someone is the point person,” Blumenthal added.
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) also confirmed that a interim report will be released in the very near future, and said that “There are more questions than answers at this point in our bipartisan Senate investigation of July 13th. We will continue to press the Secret Service and FBI for witnesses and documents.”
